6 Questions for...Gabriela Postole, Interior Designer

Gabriela is an interior designer and loves to find the perfect products, furniture and designs for individual needs. Born in Romania, she is currently building a wide network of manufacturers and producers in Berlin. She loves the diversity of the capital city.

"I love optimising things!

At RoofUz, we have the chance to design rooms optimally right from the start. That's what appeals to me."

What does being an interior designer mean to you?

As an interior designer, I want to get the best out of a room. And by that I mean functionality and aesthetics in equal measure. First and foremost, I ask how the future space will be used and what the requirements are. My goal is always to exceed the client's expectations. Doing that makes me proud and gives my work a deeper meaning.

What part of your work do you like best?

Every step holds its own fascination. But I would say that redesigning a layout and trying unconventional approaches is what I enjoy the most. It's analytical work, not the standard artistic work that many imagine. I try to consider all possible scenarios, sketch out some ideas and then discuss them with the clients. Since interior design is all about the people who live in and use the space, the feedback from my clients is extremely valuable for my work. Every milestone we reach gives me further guidance for the project and motivates me.

What do you do at RoofUz?

At RoofUz, I share my know-how and expertise just like I do in other interior design projects. But what I find particularly exciting is that some of the spaces are created from scratch and we can start with a blank slate.

And I do what I do best: optimise everything.

I optimise the space to meet the clients' needs, rethink and plan the construction of the space, and strive to minimize construction costs and complete the building phase quickly.

What would make your life easier?

If everything worked the way it was supposed to - on time and according to plan. But life is all about adapting to different scenarios. And design means anticipating and planning accordingly. We leave nothing to chance.

What kind of customers do you particularly enjoy working with?

I love working intensively with private individuals. Making their dream home a reality...

But I sometimes find working on commercial projects a bit easier and smoother. The difference is that, with residential projects, people are emotionally involved. Decision making takes longer and goes on detours, whereas with commercial projects, decision making is more logical and less emotional.

What would the ideal future for interior design look like?

There are already new improvements and advances every day. More and more product manufacturers are providing 3D models for their products that can be easily integrated into 3D designs. I am still testing many different project management tools to improve the workflow and make it easier to create and manage a project's shopping list and to-do list.
