The Spürfuchs Process – Clear Steps Toward a Decision-Making Framework
Providing clarity in the early decision-making phase
Roof extensions offer great potential for creating additional living space in existing buildings. In practice, however, many projects fail early on—not because of the planning itself, but due to a lack of clarity at the outset.
Unclear requirements, lengthy review processes, and last-minute changes lead to high costs and compromise project quality.
That is why RoofUz deliberately starts earlier
With the Spürfuchs process, we help housing companies determine with a high degree of certainty, as early as the decision-making phase, whether and in which buildings penthouse apartments are a realistic option.
The focus is not on design or construction, but on structured insights as the basis for sound decisions.
An Overview of Our Services
The Spürfuchs process is modular in design and guides you step by step from an initial overview to a clear basis for decision-making.

-

Step 1: Get an overview – Identify potential within your existing portfolio
Early classification at the portfolio level
The first step is to create a structured overview of your inventory.
You provide the addresses of your building portfolio. Based on this information, we conduct a preliminary data-driven assessment to evaluate the general potential for adding a roof extension.
Early exclusion criteria are taken into account, and the buildings are grouped according to their potential (e.g., high, medium, low).
Result:

Step 2: Verify statements – Evaluate data reliably
Further investigate the prioritized buildings
For the prioritized buildings, the data is being systematically expanded.
Existing documentation, such as structural analysis reports, construction drawings, or building permit applications, is reviewed and classified according to structural standards.
If documentation is incomplete or unavailable, relevant building data is recorded on-site with geometric precision (e.g., using laser scanning) and supplemented with research typical of the building’s era.
During a standardized site visit, visual and structural information is collected, documented in a structured manner, and prepared for further analysis.
Result:
A solid foundation for the structural analysis.🔗 Learn more about the Spürfuchs process

Step 3: Make a decision – with confidence
Confirm the static situation with certainty
Based on all available data, a preliminary structural analysis will be prepared by an experienced structural engineer.
This addresses the key questions of the project:
- Is adding a roof extension structurally feasible in principle?
- Are there any risks related to hazardous substances or structural conditions that could significantly impact the renovation or roof extension process? The results of the preliminary review, inventory analysis, and structural assessment are compiled and presented in a clear, transparent format to serve as a basis for decision-making.
Result:
- A reliable yes/no assessment of the roof extension
- An evaluation of the technical and economic feasibility
- A concrete recommendation for the next steps🔗 Learn more about the Spürfuchs process
