Sustainable housing and renovation with timber construction: discussion in the Reichstag

Recently, we were invited to an exciting evening event in the Reichstag, where the German Timber Industry Council together with politicians highlighted the opportunities of timber construction for sustainable housing and renovation. In particular, the focus was on the German timber and forestry industry. But how can the course for a sustainable and regenerative future be sensibly set? 🌱💡

The panel: experts and politicians 🎙️
The panel was moderated by Denny Ohnesorge, Managing Director of the German Timber Industry Council. The panel included Sandra Weeser, FDP, Chairwoman of the Committee for Housing, Urban Development, Construction and Communities, Erwin Taglieber, President of Deutscher Holzwirtschaftsrat e.V. and owner of Taglieber Holzbau GmbH, Lars Rohwer, CDU/CSU, member of the Committee on Housing, Urban Development, Building and Communities, and Professor Annette Hafner, architect and holder of the Chair for Resource-Efficient Building at the Ruhr University in Bochum, who also serves on the Advisory Council for Forest Policy. 👥🏢

Focus on roof extensions: simplification of regulations called for 🏗️
We met with the members of the Committee for Housing, Urban Development and Building in the Reichstag. An important topic of the evening was the roof increase. Ms. Weeser emphasized the importance of simplifying the regulations for modernizing existing buildings in the context of roof extensions. We see it the same way, of course. 🙌

Exploiting potential: Rooftop apartments and communal living 🏡

In a relaxed atmosphere and over a glass of beer, we had the opportunity to meet Mr. Schwörer from Schwörer Haus KG and discuss rooftop additions. Similar to the heating discussion, the question is how we can make good use of this potential. Attic apartments in timber construction with green roofs and terraces can significantly enhance the building stock. In addition, the income from these apartments can be invested in the energy renovation of the entire building. This form of use allows people with different incomes to live together in one building and promotes a society of togetherness. Scientific studies prove the positive effects of this form of housing. 🌿🏘💚

Shaping the future: Sustainable solutions for housing and building renovation 🌍🚀

The discussion about the potential of roof extensions will continue as we look for sustainable solutions to create housing and use our buildings more efficiently
Thank you very much for the invitation and the opportunity to participate in this important discussion. Together we are shaping a sustainable future in housing and building renovation! 🙏🏼🌱
